About the Instructor:

Mr Bovo was born in Pretoria on the 30th August 1976, and began his martial arts training at the age of 5, in 1993 he began training in the art of Tang Soo Do, where he received his black belt in 1994, as well as becoming part of the World Tang Soo Do Association “WTSDA” springbok team which participate in the World Championships hosted in Orlando Florida, U.S.A.

Mr Bovo commenced his instructor training in 1994 and received certification in 1995. Unfortunately due to an accident that occurred in mid 1995, in which his back was damaged, Mr Bovo was unable to continue teaching or training in the art of Tang Soo Do. During his 5 year layoff, Mr Bovo continued his theoretical studies of the martial arts. He made his return to Tang Soo Do in 2000 and received certification as an instructor in 2001 and has been offering classes on a part time basis. In 2005 Mr Bovo was invited to the senior instructors and masters training which was hosted in Cardiff, Wales. Mr Bovo was invited to grade for his 4th Dan Black Belt which is a 2 part grading, which he successfully passed both gradings which was held in Alabama, USA. In October 2015 Mr Bovo was awarded his 4th Dan and is now eligible for selection for Masters Belt.

From 2008 to 2011 Mr Bovo worked in the security industry and his understanding of non-verbal communication as well as conflict resolution assisted him in achieving a favourable, non-physical, outcome most of the situations which he faced. Unfortunately not all situations were able to be resolved in this manor and Mr Bovo had to use his self-defence knowledge to subdue the aggressors with minimal force.
Mr Bovo assists members of both the Tshwane Metro Police Department and the South African Police Services in community projects regarding self-defence, anti-bullying as well as community patrolling from time to time.

The point of view which Mr Bovo has is that we are all put on this earth to respect and help each other and this is what he aims to carry over to everyone who trains with and under him, and that with hard work and dedication anyone can follow their dreams.
Bellow are some of the achievements which Mr Bovo has received through his school, work and martial arts careers. He believes that he would not have been able to accomplish these goals if he was not focused and dedicated, strongly believes that these qualities as well as other important moral values were developed and strengthened by the martial arts training which he has received over the years.

To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the pleasure of working with Roberto Bovo, Chief Instructor of Pretoria Tang Soo Do, for the past seven years. Roberto is a Certified World Tang Soo Do Instructor, who has earned a 3rd degree Black Belt.

The World Tang Soo Do Association is headed by Grandmaster Jae Chul Shin. Our association has over 200,000 members in over 29 countries around the world. This means that our student’s accomplishments are recognized world-wide!

I have both instructed classes in which Mr. Bovo trained, assisted him in instructing classes at Pretoria Tang Soo Do, as well as classes we have conducted together for orphans and battered woman in Hillbrow.

There are many martial artists that are good technicians and others that are good instructors. Mr. Bovo is that rare martial artist that is both a good technician as well as a good instructor. As an instructor he recognizes the fact that “karate” is much more than punching and kicking! He emphasizes and teaches his students how to set goals to accomplish achieving their goals and the basic attitudinal concepts that will help them develop as a human being. Children develop self-confidence, discipline and respect, as well as how to protect themselves. Their ability to earn higher rank at his school is blended in with their behavior at home and their academic achievements.

I believe you will find that Roberto is the type of person you will feel comfortable entrusting your children with, and be amazed at the changes you will see in them, not only in karate, but also at home and in school.

I am confident that you and your child will thoroughly enjoy your Tang Soo Do experience under the training of Mr. Bovo.
